Re-Use Tag Sale Program

Re-Usable Household Items Program

What Is It?

This unique recycling program was developed, initiated and turned into reality by the Town's former recycling coordinator, Fannie Esidore.  Nationally recognized, her program is the model for other municipalities interested in reducing their waste stream with the added bonus of fund raising for local non-profit organizations.

How Does It Work?

Montville residents place unwanted but usable household items at a designated shed at the Transfer Station on Route 163.  Various Montville non-profit organizations then use these items to raise funds each week by holding tag sales at the former Fair Oaks School in Oakdale, at the corner of Old Colchester and Chesterfield Roads.  Montville residents who do not possess a sticker for the Transfer Station may still make donations to the shed by stopping at the gate and showing identification with proof of Montville residency.

Benefits of the Program

  • Montville residents donate items rather than throwing them out

  • The Town does not pay for disposal

  • Non-profit groups raise funds for their activities

  • Buyers get great bargains

Volunteers provide the labor and the coordination of this program.
