Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) operations are conducted at the treatment plant by mechanical and laboratory personnel. They are responsible for:
- Treating approximately 4 million gallons of residential, commercial, and industrial wastewater per day.
- Complying with state and federal quality limits to protect the ecosystem of the Thames River.
The Town of Montville Water Pollution Control wastewater treatment facility has a hydraulic capacity of 7.2 million gallons at normal strength of wastewater characteristics utilizing six sequencing batch reactor tanks. The system includes more than 100 miles of sewer piping and 23 major pumping stations maintained 24 hours per day. Rand Whitney Containerboard sends their industrial wastewater in one 2.4 mile dedicated pipeline and receives treated, reuse water in another line.
The plant has state of the art upgradings for odor control and sludge processing.
