 PART-TIME MEETING CLERK/RECORDING SECRETARY 

The Town of Montville seeks an experienced and reliable person to serve as Clerk for the Town Council.  May also substitute for other clerks for other boards or commissions.  Average 10-15 hours per month.  $17.87/hour.  No benefits provided.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Attends and records minutes for Town Council meetings, Special Meetings, and Town Hearings;
  • Sets up and operates recording equipment;
  • Prepares, files, and distributes monthly agenda and accompanying packages within the mandatory reporting guidelines outlined in the Town Charter;
  • Composes and distributes minutes and follows all mandatory recording guidelines
  • Maintains calendar of tabled, postponed and referred items
  • Maintains list of persons interviewed for various commission openings, tracks terms for commission members
  • Other related tasks as assigned by Council Chairperson

Education and Experience - High School Graduate or GED equivalent - high focus on general office practice, Business English, etc.  Two (2) years similar experience.

WPCA SENIOR LABORATORY OPERATOR

The Town of Montville is currently seeking a Senior Lab Operator in the WPCA.  This is a Union position with benefits.  Wages are:  $26.81 at Step I.  The Senior Lab Operator works under the direction of the Chief Operator/Superintendent and may supervise Lab Operators and Technicians as assigned. 

General Statment of Duties:  Performs collection and standardized laboratory testing of various wastewater samples in the Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF), wastewater collection system and water distribution system as required by state and federal regulations.  The Senior Laboratory Operator must be able to determine the efficiency of various wastewater processes to ensure that WPCF effluent meets the state and federal standards. 

The Senior Lab Operator is a Certified Laboratoy Technician that performs skilled laboratory analytical work and is responsible for record keeping, operations evaluation, discharge monitoring and reporting associated with the WPCF.  The quality of work performed meets CT Department of Environmental Protection and USEPA standards for WPCF operations compliance and Technician certification.  Conducts the DMRQA testing protocol required by the USEPA necessary for Laboratory certification.  Recommends process control changes with the ability to carry out changes safely.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING - Completion of a state approved or college preparatory course that included courses in Chemistry or Biology, or some experience and training in laboratory techniquest and procedures, or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Possession of a valid State of CT motor vehicle license of at least Class 2.  MUST POSSESS CLASS 2 Water Operator certification and also CT WASTEWATER LABORATORY ANALYST CERTIFICATION.

WPCA OPERATOR I

WPCA OPERATOR I performs a wide variety of routine duties on an assigned shift in the operation of Waste Water Treatment Plant and Collection Pump Stations.  This is a full-time Union position with benefits.  The rate of pay is $25.03 at Step 1.  The Operator I works under the direct supervision of the Chief Plant Operator/Superintendent and the general supervision of the Mayor.

 The WPCA Operator I is a technical and mechanical position with considerable responsibility when serving as a shift operator.  Employees of this class usually work under the supervision of the Water Pollution Control Authority Superintendent or designated Chief Operator for the operation, minor repair and routine maintenance of equipment. The Operator I is required to work day, night and weekend shifts; emergency and unusual conditions are referred to the WPCA Superintendent of designated Chief Operator.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Operates, adjusts, checks, and inspects all pumping equipment assigned to him on his shift or phase of operation
  • Opens or closes valves to regulate flow as required
  • Checks,and/or reads various dials, gauges, and meters
  • Maintains records, logs, pertinent data or operations as required
  • Collects and stores samples when necessary
  • Required to make measurements or minimal tests with various equipment, such as temperatures, chlorine residuals, quantities of materials or chemicals and pH measurements
  • Controls the transfer of the volume of sewage or sludge from various tanks
  • cleans rake baskets, various screens, shredders, de-gritters, etc....
  • Regulates chemical equipment
  • Responds to emergency situations
  • Performs lubrication on various equipment
  • Operates various equipment, meters
  • Maintains and participates in all safety and preventative maintenance programs
  • Operates WPCA motor vehicles
  • Ability to work long hours, evenings, weekends as required
  • Regular attendance mandatory requirement of the job

REQUIREMENTS

  • Some knowledge of Waste Water Treatment Plant and Collection Pump Station principles and operating policies
  • Mechanicial ability
  • Understanding terminology and units of expresion involving the precoesses
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; keep records, reports and logs
  • Possession of valid CT Motor Vehicle License
  • MUST POSSESS CLASS I CONNECTICUT WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR CERTIFICATION

PART-TIME FIREFIGHTER

$18.70/HOUR

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Connecticut Certified Firefighter 1/EMT/Hazmat Operational
  • Certified Fire Apparatus Pump Operator for 2 years
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s License with “Q” restriction OR CDL
  • No physical restrictions
  • Saturday scheduling a must

TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANTS

Public Works – $10.61/hr Per Diem Position

Weekend availability a must, occasional fill–in on weekdays.Clean CT driver’s license and background, ability to interact with courtesy and respect. Will assist residents with proper disposal of solid waste and recycling items.

Condition of employment includes satisfactory completion of physical/drug screen & background check.
