The Montville Fire Marshal’s Office is responsible for fire safety and prevention code compliance, which includes annual inspections of every occupancy with the exception of one and two family dwelling units. Code enforcement activities are overseen by the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is also responsible for the investigation of all fires for cause and origin, fireworks, open burning, and blasting permits, code review for new construction, and the enforcement of various other codes and applicable referenced standards adopted pursuant to CGS 29-305.
Additionally, the Fire Marshal serves as the immediate supervisor of the Town's paid fire fighters working out of the Volunteer Fire Companies.

- Fireworks Display Permit, $100.00 payable to State of CT
- Open Burning Permit, no fee

Note - Open burning is not allowed:
- To clear land prior to construction activities
- To dispose of construction debris, household trash, or leaves.
- If the Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecasted to be 100 or higher anywhere in the state
- If the Forest Fire Danger Index is rated High, Very High, or Extreme
