Assessment Process

The Montville Assessor's Office is responsible for the discovery, listing and valuation of all real and personal property within our jurisdiction in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes. This office also administers state and local tax relief programs and applies exemptions as allowed by law.

Real Estate Information

The Assessor's Office is responsible for the appraisal of all Real Property located in the Town of Montville. Real Estate is assessed at 70% of the appraised value as established during the last Revaluation. Montville last revalued all Real Property for the October 1, 2021 Grand List. Assessments will remain constant until the next Revaluation October 1, 2026 unless new construction, improvements or physical changes are discovered.

Real Estate Mobile Manufactured Homes

In the State of Connecticut, Mobile Manufactured Homes are considered Real Estate per C.G.S. 12-63a.  Also, C.G.S. 21-67a requires the recording of a Conveyance of Title of a Mobile Manufactured Home and/or a Removal Statement of a Mobile Manufactured Home with the Town Clerk. The time period for filing a Removal Statement is 72 hours prior to the removal of such home. Failure to file a Removal Statement in the time allowed can result in substantial penalties.

Personal Property Information

All owners of taxable Personal Property located in the Town of Montville are required to to file a Personal Property Declaration with the Assessor on or before November 1st pursuant to C.G.S. 12-41. This includes all persons conducting business, professionals, occupations or trades, farmers, owners of unregistered Motor Vehicles, owners of non-Connecticut registered Motor Vehicles, owners of Recreational Vehicles located in Montville, Mobile Manufactured Homes not assessed as Real Estate and owners of horses, ponies and thoroughbreds. Motor Vehicle Tax Adjustments and Removal

The Assessor's Office is also responsible for adjusting or removing Motor Vehicle taxes as allowed by Connecticut State Law. Two appropriate forms of proof must be provided in the time allowed to substantiate claims of vehicles sold, stolen and not recovered, totaled, junked or vehicles registered in another state.
